In the book Candide Voltaire is satirizing social hierarchy in chapter 13. I am going to organize my paragrahps by using the example of governor Don Fernando de Ibaraa, y Figueora, y Mascarenes, y Lampurdos, y Suza. His long name reresents power and wealth. In the second paragraph i will use the example Of when on page 47 the old woman adds another reason for Cunegonde to go and marry the governor when she states, “you now have the chance to become the wife of a man who’s the greatest lord in South America and has a very handsome mustache.” The fact that the old woman has the reason for marrying the governor is because of his mustache is a sign that the governor has lots of power and wealth.
